Vandeventer Neighborhood

The Vandeventer Neighborhood is located in central St. Louis City. The boundaries of the neighborhood are Dr. Martin Luther King on the north, Vandeventer on the east, Delmar Blvd on the south and Newstead on the west. Surrounding neighborhoods are The Ville and The Greater Ville to the north; the Grand Center Neighborhood to the east, the Central West End Neighborhood to the south and the Lewis Place Neighborhood to the west.

Parks and Recreation

As with all of the neighborhoods in St. Louis City, Vandeventer has at least one of the City's 111 parks. Turner Playground is the one found in the neighborhood and is located at Sarah and West Belle. The park features almost an acre and a half of parkland with a picnic pavilion, a playground and a softball field.

Schools and Education

The St. Louis Public School District is the local school district that serves the residents in this neighborhood. Located in the neighborhood is one district school, the Pamoja Preparatory Academy at Cole Elementary School which provides a unique education environment that features "African-centered teaching and learning." There are several other district schools that are located in the surrounding neighborhoods. The Sumner High School is located in The Ville Neighborhood on Cottage Avenue. The Cote Brilliante Elementary School is located in The Greater Ville Neighborhood on Cora Avenue. The Metro Academic and Classical High School is located in the Central West End Neighborhood. It is a Magnet School with a focus of "General Academics" and is found on McPherson Avenue. Several private schools are also located nearby. Cardinal Ritter College Prep is a co-ed Catholic high school located in the Grand Center Neighborhood on North Spring Avenue. De La Salle Middle School, a private Catholic middle school, is located in the Greater Ville Neighborhood on Kennerly Avenue. The Cathedral Basilica School of St. Louis is located in the Central West End Neighborhood on Maryland Avenue. Also in the Central West End is the Rosati-Kain High School, a private Catholic all girls high school on Lindell Blvd. Loyola Academy of St. Louis is a Catholic all boys middle school based on the Nativity Miguel model and located in the Covenant Blu-Grand Center Neighborhood on Washington Avenue. Options for higher education are found throughout the St. Louis Metropolitan area. Two are nearby. One is the Ranken Technical College, a 2 year technical and vocational college located in the Lewis Place Neighborhood. The other is the Saint Louis University, a private 4 year college located in the Midtown Neighborhood.

Libraries

The St. Louis Public Library has 15 branch libraries located throughout the city. The Schlafly Library Branch is conveniently located in the Central West End Neighborhood on North Euclid Avenue.
